National sculling regatta The day started a little later than normal setting off from Bedford at 7am. Four crews excited about racing at Sunny Doreny lake. The time trials started well with the WJ4x getting to the A final and Toby White gaining a place in the B final coming 11th in the time trial. In the final Toby was in 4th place at 1000m with a race plan to push at 500m he pushed through the field to finish 1st finishing 7th overall. Jack Gowing headed out to his semi final with no expectations but excited about racing in the single. He had a steady but gained on the field as the race progressed. At 500 meters to go he was in second place, this placed in in the top 6 to make the A final. The 16J4x had a straight final and although finishing 5th doesn't appear a good result they were racing the top crews in the country at their age group and this will stand them in good stead for National schools in two weeks’ time. The girls junior 4x prepped for the final with lots of revision for forth coming exams. They went into the final with their heads held high. They executed their race plan and raced their socks off. Finishing in 5th place they were certainly not out classed. The last race of the day was Jack Gowing in the A final of Junior singles. Jack new he had to scull well to compete again the slightly larger junior boys, again Jack was steady off the start but soon pulled the pack back to him. He came through the line in 3rd place gaining the Bronze medal, well done Jack. This regatta was in its second year and I hope to bring more crews next year. Thank you to David and Chris for supporting the rowers throughout the day. Jack Gowing and Sharon Noble.
